fashion show

ideas guy

this is the craziest thing I’ve done in my whole mcmaster career.
With ONE WEEK of planning, OVER 500+ people showed up to the “performative male contest”

from planning, marketing, and execution, we made one of the best social events there was on campus! the concept itself is silly, i know, but that’s how we garnered attention, and intrigued enough people to show up!

i wanted to put this lore on my website to look back on a funny moment. here are some of the video highlights:

this all started in the fall semester where I was quite bored and wanted to create something, form something, build something, do something fun, was side quest-y, and with my friends.

i called it, sandbox socials.

it was supposed to represent a group of people who want to explore, build, host fun things on campus. i basically pitched this to my friends and they were pretty onboard, although i did a lot of the execution work myself.

first, we needed to illicit confusion, curiosity, and attention.

we decided on hosting a “labubu rave”, but we didn’t actually have a venue or anything so we just pretended to host it anyways. that gave us the traction we needed with over 700 shares on a brand new account!

we then hosted a “labubu dubai chocolate making” event. but whilst we actually hosted that event, that story is for another day.

then i locked in.

i was very passionate about making this event happen. And we needed a big marketing plan to make this a BIG hit.

We started with reddit rumours:

  • “OMG A PERFORMATIVE MALE CONTEST IS HAPPENING?”
  • “THE PRIZE IS 67??”

This got over 500k Views on Reddit and people were talking...

Then we posted on Instagram and gained 100k Views on Instagram! But I didn’t stop there. We need to print these posters and start putting them up!

but we didn’t stop there. after printing out the flyers, i also started to hand out the flyers to people personally who fit the role. (in hindsight i understand why some of them got mad at me)
